JAMES FINDLATER - Timaru - 1879

This could also be one of the shorter of the individual pages, as, at the moment, we know very little about this James from the time he lands in New Zealand.

James Findlater was born in 1852 (full date still to be confirmed) in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was the son of Samuel Findlater and Catherine Fairburn.

James sailed from Glasgow on 29th July 1879 aboard the Timaru and landed in Port Chalmers on 19th October 1879. On the ships manifest he is described as an "Engineer". On the 1871 census in Scotland his profession is also given as Engineer / Pattern Drawer.

However from the moment of his landing in Port Chalmers, there is no further record of him. There is no marriage or death records nor any comments about him in any of the old papers. He just disappears. I have even checked to see if he went back to the UK but there is no trace of him.

If he did have a family here and there are any descendants I would love to hear from you to correct my records.
